Accession of New Zealand and Mexico to the Madrid Agreement relating to the registration of international trade marks: 

The governments of New Zealand and Mexico filed instruments of accession to the protocol relating to the Madrid Agreement on the international registration of trade marks. It has been possible to designate New Zealand via an international trade mark since 10 December 2012 and the same will apply to Mexico as of 19 February 2013. 

 

Accession of Montenegro and Hong Kong to the Nice Agreement relating to the international classification of products and services: 

 

The governments of Montenegro and Hong Kong filed instruments of accession to the Nice Agreement relating to the international classification of products and services. This agreement will take effect on 16 February 2013 for Montenegro and on 27 February 2013 for Hong Kong. 

 

China partially authorises the protection of trade marks for sales services relating to pharmaceutical products: 

 

Since 1 January 2013, the China Trademark Office has changed its practices relating to the registration of trade marks in China, which now cover services relating to the sale of pharmaceutical products. 

 

The following headings are accepted in Service Class 35, i.e. 

 

1. Retail or wholesale services of preparations for pharmaceutical, veterinary and sanitary purposes and medical articles 

 

2. Retail or wholesale services of pharmaceuticals 

 

3. Retail or wholesale services of pharmaceutical preparations 

 

4. Retail or wholesale services of sanitary preparations 

 

5. Retail or wholesale services of medical articles 

 

6. Retail or wholesale services of medicine for veterinary purposes 

 

7. Retail or wholesale services of veterinary preparations
